- Nicaragua joined the IMF on March 14, 1946
- The IMF opened the Resident Representative Office in Nicaragua in 1994. Currently, the Resident Representative is Mr. Humberto E. Arbulú Neira.

- For representation and voting purposes, Nicaragua joins membership with group that also includes Venezuela, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico and Spain. For more information on Nicaragua's constituency and its Director, see IMF Executive Directors and Voting Power
- Under the Heavily Indebted Poor Countries (HIPC) Initiative, Nicaragua reached the decision point on December 2000 and the completion point on January 2004. Recently, the country was eligible for the Multilateral Debt Relief Initiative (MDRI).
- In February 2005, Nicaragua formally joined the IMF's General Data Dissemination System, thus pledging to follow the international standards and codes, and to provide information about the procedures for the production and dissemination of economic, financial, social and demographic data.
Technical Assistance
The IMF has provided Nicaragua with technical assistance in the areas of tax policy and administration, monetary and foreign exchange operations, central banking, bank restructuring and supervision, economic statistics, and tax administration.
Financial Assistance
IMF financial resources have been made available to Nicaragua on four occasions since 1991 to support the economic and financial programs of the authorities (See table below)
