The IMF Uruguay Office and Its Staff

IMF Resident Staff in Uruguay

The IMF Resident Representative office is located within the Central Bank of Uruguay in Montevideo. Its main function is to facilitate the policy dialogue and flow of information between the government authorities of Uruguay and the IMF. The Resident Representative office also helps staff based at IMF's headquarters in Washington, DC to supervise the IMF supported economic program, perform surveillance, and provide technical assistance to the autorities. Other duties include dialogue with civil society organizations, dissemination of information on the IMF and assistance to Uruguayan candidates nominated for IMF training programs.


Gaston Gelos
  The IMF's current Resident Representative in Uruguay is Mr. Gaston Gelos. He joined the IMF in 1998 after completing a Ph.D. in economics at Yale University. Previous work experience includes serving as an assistant to the German Deputy Foreign Minister and as a consultant for the World Bank. Before taking up his assignment in Uruguay in July 2005, he worked in the IMF’s Research, European, ICM, and Western Hemisphere Departments.

Ms. Fernanda Rossi, is an economist. She has been working in the office since 2006.

Mrs. Maureen Pereira, is the office's administrative assistant. She has been working in the IMF's Montevideo office since 1977.

Mr. Gavin Díaz, is an office assistant and driver. He has been working in the IMF's Montevideo office since 2002.
