January 22, 2014 -- IMF Survey : In Memoriam: A Tribute to Wabel Abdallah, 1953-2014
Wabel Abdallah, the IMF’s Resident Representative in Afghanistan, was killed on Friday, January 17. Wabel, 60 years old, died in an attack at a restaurant in Kabul—the first time that the Fund has lost a staff member in this way.

The Ministers of the Intergovernmental Group of 24 met today amid very difficult global circumstances, which make the prospects for our own developing countries especially challenging. As is now clear, the World Economic Outlook has weakened substantially since our last meeting in September 2002.

Ministers expressed concern about the deterioration in the world economy, and noted that risks to the outlook remained on the downside. In particular, there was much concern about the fragility in investor confidence and the decline in the equity markets, which has been due in part to problems in corporate governance in industrial countries.
