What does the IMF Resident Representative Office Do?
The IMF Resident Representative in Papua New Guinea (PNG) was opened in September 2000. Its main objectives are to:
- Monitor economic and financial sector developments in PNG.
- In consultation with IMF headquarters, provide policy advice to the PNG authorities on current economic issues.
- Maintain close contact with authorities and other development partners in Port Moresby, and work together on common issues.
- Assist IMF missions, staff, and consultants visiting Papua New Guinea.
IMF Team in Port Moresby:
Ebrima Faal, Resident Representative. I joined the IMF in 1992. My first mission was to PNG. Since then, I have worked mostly on Caribbean and Latin American countries. My latest assignment on Mexico. Before that, I was resident representative to Guyana (1999-2002).
Konio Rarua-Bell, Administrative and Budget Officer. I joined the Port Moresby office in 2001. My responsibilities consist of running the everyday operations of the office and assisting other staff on all administrative and clerical issues. I also look after the PNG post budget and coordinate security issues. My job is challenging and very enjoyable.
Imanakone Sioa, Staff Assistant. I have been working with the Fund Office in Port Moresby since 2002. I handle all the secretarial responsibilities for the Resident Representative, organize and coordinate his reports, and presentations. I also assist Konio with administrative issues and post accounts.
Fred Eka, Senior Driver/Messenger. I joined the IMF Office in 2000. In addition to my normal driving duties, I also assist with clerical work and liaise with the UNDP and other agencies on security issues.
