- Paraguay joined the IMF on March 14, 1946
- Paraguay's quota in the Fund amount to SDR 99.9 million (about US$ 148 million), or 0.05 percent of total quotas. Paraguay's voting power in the Fund is 1,249, or about 0.06 percent of total voting powers.

- Paraguay's representation in the IMF is made effective through its participation in the group made up by Argentina, Peru, Chile, Uruguay, Bolivia and Paraguay. There is a representation agreement between these countries. Currently, the Representative are Mr. Javier Silva-Ruete of Peru and Mr. Hector Torres of Argentina.

- The IMF opened the Resident Representative Office in Paraguay in 2005. Mr. Luis Duran-Downing is the current Senior Resident Representative.
- The Executive Board of the IMF approved a 27-month Stand-By Arrangement (SBA) for SDR 65 million (65 percent of quota) on May 31, 2006, covering the remainder of President Duarte Frutos term.
- In September 2001, Paraguay formally joined the IMF's General Data Dissemination System, thus pledging to follow the international standards and codes, and to provide information about the procedures for the production and dissemination of economic, financial, social and demographic data.
