What we do in Turkey
The IMF office in Ankara follows economic developments and policies in Turkey, liaises between the Turkish authorities and the IMF staff in Washington, and coordinates IMF technical assistance. It is also a source of information about IMF views for the public, local and foreign analysts, investors, academic and research institutions, and Turkey's international partners and their diplomatic missions.

Who we are
The office in Turkey was opened in 2000, with Odd Per Brekk as the first Resident Representative. He was followed by Hugh Bredenkemp (2004-07), and more recently by Hossein Samiei (2007-2010).
Born in Zurich, Switzerland in 1962, Mark Lewis has been the IMF’s Senior Representative in Turkey since September 2010. Mr. Lewis has worked with the IMF for 17 years, and has extensive experience covering a wide range of countries and policy issues. Just prior to taking up his current position, he served as Mission Chief for Morocco and Division Chief for the Caucasus Division (covering Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, and Turkmenistan) in the IMF’s Middle East and Central Asia Department. Before that, Mr. Lewis worked in the IMF’s Strategy and Policy Review Department, where he covered regional developments, including in Europe and Latin America. Previous country responsibilities included Russia and Ukraine. Prior to joining the IMF, Mr. Lewis spent several years at the World Bank, and before that, lived and worked for three years in the Southern Sudan.
Mr. Lewis has an M.P.P. from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government, and a B.A. degree from Swarthmore College.
1962 İsviçre Zürih doğumlu Mark Lewis, 17 yıldır IMF bünyesinde çalışmakta olup Eylül 2010’da Türkiye Temsilciliğine atanmıştır. Lewis, IMF’deki kariyeri boyunca, çok sayıda ülke ve ekonomik politikaları ile ilgili kapsamlı bir tecrübeye sahiptir. Mark Lewis, IMF Türkiye Daimi Temsilciği görevine atanmadan önce, IMF’nin Orta Doğu ve Orta Asya Dairesi’nde, Fas Misyon Şefliği ve Kafkasya Bölgesi (Azerbaycan, Ermenistan, Gürcistan ve Türkmenistan) Bölüm Başkanlığı görevlerini yürütmüştür. Lewis daha öncesinde ise, IMF Strateji ve Politika Araştırma Dairesi’nde, Avrupa ve Latin Amerika da dahil olmak üzere bölgesel gelişmeler ile ilgili çeşitli çalışmalarda bulunmuştur. Rusya ve Ukrayna da, geçmişte Lewis’in IMF kariyerinde sorumlu olduğu ülkeler arasında bulunmaktadır. Lewis, IMF’de çalışmaya başlamadan önce, uzun yıllar Dünya Bankası’nda görev almıştır. Lewis, Dünya Bankası’ndaki tecrübesi öncesinde ise üç yıl boyunca Güney Sudan’da çalışmış ve yaşamıştır.
Swarthmore Üniversitesinden lisans derecesi ile mezun olan Lewis, Kamu Politikaları üzerine yaptığı yüksek lisans derecesini Harvard Üniversitesi’nde (Kennedy School of Government) tamamlamıştır.
