Content and structure
Scope and content: Series contains files accumulated through African Department and IMF relations with regional and international organizations, particularly financing agencies and UN agencies or regional banks. Most files reflect: an exchange of data or reports; coordination of activities or collaborative activities in African member countries; an observer status for an IMF representative on an external group; invitations to regional or international meetings; and, continuing relations with African organizations. Records include: correspondence - letters, cables, and faxes - exchanged between AFR officers or the Managing Director and the presidents or officers of external organizations; news wire telexes on events in member countries; letters or memoranda from AFR or the IMF sharing requested data or reports, such as Recent Economic Developments; memoranda, press releases and reports from external organizations copied or sent to AFR for commentary or for information sharing purposes (for example, UNDP reports or the Banque des Etats de l'Afrique Centrale sending a copy of its statutes); conference, seminar or meeting materials such as agendas, programmes, minutes, and copies of speeches given by presenters; speeches given by AFR staff who attended such conferences or meetings and subsequent back-to-office reports; correspondence regarding technical assistance for regional organizations and from the technical assistants working in such organizations; and Board Documents. Files are arranged alphabetically and then chronologically. Based on the number of files, the predominant organizations are: African Development Bank; Association of African Central Banks; IBRD, Economic Commission for Africa; and various other United Nations agencies.
