Name of Creator: Woodley, W. John R.
Administrative/Biographical history: William John Richard Woodley, a national of Canada, first joined the International Monetary Fund in 1948 as an Economist in the Research Department (RES). He later transferred to the Trade and Payments Division of the Exchange Restrictions Department (ERD) in 1950 where he worked as an Economist. In 1952, Woodley separated from the IMF and joined the staff of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, Paris. He held this post for three years. Woodley returned to the IMF in 1955 as an Economist in the Multiple Currency Division of the Exchange Restrictions Department. He was later promoted to Assistant Division Chief in 1958 and to Division Chief in 1959. In 1963 Woodley was transferred to the Immediate Office of ERD where he worked as an Advisor. The following year, he was promoted to Assistant Director. In 1966, Woodley was transferred to the Asian Department (ASD) where he served as Deputy Director until his retirement in September 1980. Later that same year Woodley returned to the IMF as an Advisor to the Director of the Asian Department.
Woodley was born in 1923 and held a BA, MA and PhD in Economics.
Content and structure
Scope and content: Series consists of files maintained by W. John R. Woodley, Deputy Director of the Asian Department, 1966 -1980. The files, which cover the period 1972-1976, contain policy papers, records of visits to countries, reports prepared for Annual Meetings and records pertaining to the end of the Vietnam Conflict.
