Content and structure

Scope and content: Series consists of chronological files maintained by Charles S. Gardner from 1981 to 1983 when he was Deputy Director of the External Relations Department (EXR). Files contain memoranda, correspondence and cables written by Gardner and directed to recipients both within and outside the IMF. Occasionally the original letters which prompted a response from Gardner are filed with the response. The records concern all the functions and activities of EXR as well as administrative matters. However, records regularly refer to the following prevalent matters: coordination and clearance of speaking engagements and outside publication for IMF staff; press relations; production and distribution of IMF publications; and, Gardner's participation at various conferences and seminars. Gardner also replied to some requests for information from external groups and individuals. Files are arranged chronologically by year and documents within each file are arranged in reverse chronological order.
