Context

Name of Creator: English Division

Administrative/Biographical history: The IMF Institute established separate English, French, and Spanish language groups to carry out its economic management training activities in 1972. By 1973, the groups became separate divisions. The primary responsibility of the Institute's English Division (INSEG) was to prepare teaching material and conduct courses which were offered bi-annually, such as Financial Analysis and Policy, or on an annual basis, in collaboration with other IMF departments (namely the Research Department and Fiscal Affairs Department). The English Division was also responsible for arranging Arabic language training from 1983 until the Arabic Division was formed in 1986. Following the reorganization of the Institute in 1993, all divisions were renamed according to regions. The English Division was subsequently renamed the European Division.
