Content and structure
Scope and content: Series consists of the Subject Files maintained by the Special Representative to the United Nations over the period 1947-1989. Files contain both original and copies of internal memoranda; cables; faxes; external documents and/or publications of the United Nations System of organizations; IMF Executive Board series of documents, some of which are annotated; and, the occasional handwritten note. Correspondence is routine in nature and primarily consists of communication between the Special Representative to the United Nations, the Managing Director or the Director of the External Relations Department (EXR) and officials of the organizations of the United Nations system. Incoming correspondence is comprised of letters, invitations to attend upcoming meetings, meeting agendas and committee publications. Outgoing correspondence largely consist of replies to meeting invitations. Internal communication between the UN Special Representative and the Office of the Managing Director and area departments usually dealt with permission to attend UN-related meetings and meeting scheduling; arrangements for and preparation of speaking notes for the Managing Director's speaking engagements at these meetings; and, back-to-office reports, summary and/or briefing reports regarding issues discussed in UN system of organizations which impacted the work of the IMF. Files related to Palestine and South Africa contain information regarding the United Nations resolutions and/or interest in these countries.
Files are arranged in alphabetical order based on the alphabetical index of the United Nations system of organizations. Records within each file are arranged in reverse chronological order.
Appraisal, destruction and scheduling information: Duplicate copies and transitory records were destroyed.
