Context
Name of Creator: Williamson, John H.
Administrative/Biographical history: Before working at the Fund, John Williamson was a professor at the University of Warwick from 1970 to 1972. Prior to that, he worked as an economic consultant for the U.K. Treasury from 1968-1970, and as a lecturer and reader at the University of York from 1963-1968. Williamson was appointed as an Advisor in the Research Department from 1972-1974, and his contributions to the department were mainly in the area of monetary reform.
Content and structure
Scope and content: Series consists of subject files of John Williamson, Advisor, Research Department (1972-1974). Subjects covered by Williamson's files include the Committee of Twenty, in which he was actively involved (this includes his involvement in working parties of the C-20); Special Drawing Rights interest rates, and monetary reform issues. Committee of Twenty documents include both documents issued by the Committee of Twenty as well as documents written by Williamson about the activities of the Committee of Twenty. The Committee of Twenty was concerned with the reform of the international monetary system in the wake of the collapse of the Bretton Woods system of fixed but adjustable exchange rates.
Types of materials in this series include correspondence, memoranda, Board documents, handwritten notes, conference papers, cables, documents of the Committee of Twenty, and minutes from meetings. Files are arranged alphabetically, and documents are arranged in reverse chronological order within each file.
