Content and structure

Scope and content: Series consists of the chronological files of Jacques Polak, Director of the Research Department (1958-1979) and the Fund's Economic Counsellor (1966-1979). Records are primarily carbon copies of outgoing correspondence, internal memos, comments on papers, thank you notes, memos to the Managing Director. Occasionaly incoming correspondence or memos have been attached. The series duplicates records found in the Subject Files series, with the addition of some administrative records regarding staff leave, clerical staff, and expense reimbursements. Of particular significance are issues related to the adoption of Special Drawing Rights (SDRs); review of country quotas and currency designation; exchange rates and various currency crises; the demonetarization of gold and the role of gold in the Fund, the development and regulation of the Fund facilities, particularly the Oil Facility; and the findings of the Committee of Twenty and the reform of the Fund. Documents are arranged chronologically. However, within each file the documents are filed in reverse chronological order.
