Content and structure

Scope and content: Series contains outgoing letters and memos primarily sent by Director Del Canto. The early correspondence, pre-1957, falls into the period during which Del Canto was Assistant Director of WHD. There are several substantive memos addressed to Managing Director and Deputy Managing Director discussing country developments and specific issues such as Stand-by arrangements, exchange rate policy and special drawing rate (SDR) transactions, visits and missions to countries, and departmental and external meetings. Other outgoing letters discussing departmental business are directed to foreign bank officials. Member countries of notable mention in the files include (but are not limited to) Argentina, Haiti, Chile, and Bolivia. The series also contains a small volume of comments and observations, or briefing notes of the Director on countries and specific issues as mentioned above, and some correspondence regarding internal administration matters such as travel arrangements, acknowledgement of incoming letters, and thank-you letters.
