Course Description:
This one-week seminar, presented by the IMF's Statistics Department, is designed to familiarize participants with concepts and compilation practices relating to the compilation of balance of payments data on remittances. The seminar will have two objectives: first, to promote new standards in remittances statistics set out in the International Transactions in Remittances: Guide for Compilers and Users and second, to provide practical compilation guidance for compilers on obtaining and processing remittances data.

The seminar consists of lectures, discussions, and case studies. It covers: (i) recent developments in concepts and definitions of remittances and existing frameworks for compiling remittances data, (ii) remittance channels, and (iii) possible data sources for remittances statistics. It also seeks to stimulate the exchange of experiences and ideas across the target region and identify the extent to which all participating countries share problems in improving data on remittances.
