This seminar will provide participants with an understanding of the concepts and definitions, and sources and techniques for the compilation of Financial Soundness Indicators (FSIs) in the context of the IMF's draft Compilation Guide on Financial Soundness Indicators. In addition, the seminar will discuss institutional and other issues that need to be addressed in order to produce harmonized FSIs for use both at the national and international level. The ongoing work at the IMF on the role of FSIs in surveillance, and assessment of and monitoring of vulnerabilities of financial systems will also be outlined. For presentation at the seminar, participants will be asked to prepare in advance a country paper on the compilation and use of FSIs in their countries. Participants will also be expected to discuss priority areas for future work on the final day of the seminar. FSIs are being developed to help monitor the current financial health and soundness of financial institutions, and of their corporate and household counterparts. FSIs include both aggregated information and indicators that are representative of markets in which financial institutions operate.
