Minister González of Argentina Meets IMF Managing Director

The Minister of Labor and Social Security of Argentina, Dr. Antonio Erman González, met the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, Michel Camdessus, in Washington today. Following the meeting, Mr. Camdessus said:

"We had an open and fruitful meeting, in which Minister González provided information about several initiatives that are being promoted by the Ministry to reform and modernize labor markets in Argentina. The IMF supports these efforts and welcomes the determination expressed by the authorities to continue on the path of reform of the labor markets.

"The progress made in the implementation of these reforms and other aspects of the program supported by an IMF extended arrangement will be assessed in the context of the review of the program that is scheduled to take place during the third quarter of this year."
