Press Release: IMF Managing Director Horst Köhler to Visit China, Malaysia, and Thailand

The Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Horst Köhler, is traveling to China, Malaysia, and Thailand in early September to meet with senior officials and to participate in the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Finance Ministers' Meeting in Phuket, Thailand. His visit is part of the IMF's continuing close policy dialogue with the East Asian countries, with increased emphasis on the sharing of cross-country experiences.

The central purpose of Mr. Köhler's trip to Beijing, Kuala Lumpur, and Phuket, is to exchange perspectives on critical issues facing the global economy; discuss challenges confronting the region; and reinforce the IMF's continued engagement with Asia. He is particularly interested in the views of Asian countries regarding various regional cooperation initiatives as well as the Fund's ongoing work to reinforce global economic and financial stability.
