Statement of IMF Managing Director on the Assassination of Serbian Prime Minister Djindjic

The Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Horst Köhler, made the following statement today:

"I was saddened and shocked by the news of the assassination of Serbian Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic. Mr. Djindjic had a hopeful and strategic vision for his country, which he pursued with courage and effectiveness. Under his government, Serbia made impressive progress in stabilizing and reforming its economy, and in integrating it with the rest of Europe. My deepest condolences go to his family and the people of Serbia."
