IMF Managing Director Rodrigo de Rato to Visit Guatemala on February 28, 2006Press Release No. 06/37

Mr. Erik Offerdal, the Resident Representative of the International Monetary Fund in Guatemala, issued the following statement on February 23:
"Mr. Rodrigo de Rato, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), will visit Guatemala on February 28, 2006, at the invitation of the President Oscar Berger Perdomo. Previously, the Deputy Managing Director of the IMF, Mr. Agustín Carstens, visited Guatemala on July 8, 2005 (see Press Release No. 05/163)
"In Guatemala City, Mr. de Rato will meet President Berger, Vice President Eduardo Stein, Central Bank President Lizardo Sosa, Finance Minister Maria Antonieta de Bonilla, members of the Guatemalan Congress, other senior officials, and representatives of civil society and the private sector. The visit will provide an opportunity to exchange views on macroeconomic policies and the outlook for economic growth and poverty reduction in Guatemala.
"On May 16, 2005, the IMF Executive Board completed the annual consultation with Guatemala on economic and financial policies (see Public Information Notice No. 05/95)."
