Press Release: IMF Managing Director Ends China Visit, Meets Premier Wen Jiabao

IMF Managing Director Dominique Strauss-Kahn today concluded a two-day visit to China, where he co-chaired, with People’s Bank of China Governor Zhou Xiaochuan, a conference in Shanghai on Macro-Prudential Policies: An Asian Perspective. The conference, hosted by the People's Bank of China and sponsored by the IMF, brought together central bankers from around the world to discuss ways to reinforce global financial sector stability. The Managing Director then visited Beijing for consultations with the Chinese authorities. He met with Premier Wen Jiabao and Vice Premier Wang Qishan. The discussions with the Chinese leadership came ahead of the G20 ministerial meeting this weekend. "We had cordial and useful discussions on a range of issues, including the importance of international cooperation to build and sustain a strong global recovery" Strauss-Kahn said at the end of the meetings.
