|This paper, by Eurostat is based on the proceedings of the Eurostat Task Force on the SNA review (financial accounts and government finance statistics) and of the Financial Accounts Working Party. Following several recent meetings in Europe, this paper will be presented to the December 2004 meeting of the Advisory Expert Group on National Accounts (AEG) as an information item, inter alia to explain why the Europeans consider the issue deserves broader consideration. The other paper on pensions presented to the AEG is the one by the moderator of this Electronic Discussion Group posted on December 2, 2004.
The AEG plays a key role in the current revision of the System of National Accounts 1993 by giving advice to the five international organizations responsible for this project. Further information on the activities of the AEG can be found on the UN Statistics Department?s web site at: http://unstats.un.org/unsd/nationalaccount/aeg.htm
