### Purpose and scope
- The IMF provides capacity development on macroeconomic issues to countries to enhance economic policies and institutions.
- Centers focus on core areas: raising public revenues and enhancing management of these resources; modernizing banking systems; advising on related legal frameworks; improving economic analysis, forecasting, and reporting of macroeconomic and financial statistics.
- The IMF’s global network of regional centers coordinates much of the IMF’s capacity development delivery on the ground and is tailored to each region’s priorities.
- Close cooperation and sustained follow-up support to institutions such as finance ministries, central banks, and statistical agencies help traction and ownership and contribute to success.
- For more than 50 years, the IMF has worked with member countries to modernize institutions, train people, strengthen economic policies, and promote peer learning.
- Host countries and partners provide more than three-quarters of the resources needed to run the centers and contribute expertise to ensure coordination, efficient delivery, and sharing of best practices.

### Regional impacts and illustrative country stories
- Western Africa (Senegal, AFRITAC West): Revenue collected from medium-sized enterprises almost doubled after work to expand the tax base, build frameworks for medium-term debt strategies, and improve accounting procedures, mobilizing resources to support poverty reduction efforts.
- Caribbean (CARTAC): CARTAC integrated gender throughout its public financial management (PFM) workplan for its 23 member countries and provides training on gender-budgeting and gender-sensitive audit practices; other regional centers are moving to adopt this practice.
- Middle East and North Africa (West Bank & Gaza, METAC): 10 years ago, West Bank & Gaza did not have a credit registry system; now it has an automated, online 24/7 credit registry system implemented with METAC that has helped households and small businesses obtain credit, boosted financial access, and led to a significant decline in credit delinquencies and losses.
- Europe, the Caucasus, and Central Asia (JVI): Participants of JVI courses report intent to apply knowledge on "Tools and Policies for Inclusive Growth" to improve fiscal and macroeconomic policies, hold seminars, and share experience on poverty, growth, the labor market, and fiscal policy for inclusive economic growth.
- Southern Africa (Zambia, AFRITAC South): Zambia rebased and updated national account statistics to match international standards and reflect two decades of economic growth and structural change; Zambia is now regarded as a leader in statistical best practices.
- Asia - Pacific (PFTAC and Pacific Island members): PFTAC has helped 16 Pacific Island countries cope with climate change risks and costs through hands-on advice, peer-learning workshops, and training; support includes debt sustainability assessments that account for fiscal implications of natural disasters and creation of robust fiscal frameworks and PFM plans for resilience.
