### Lecturer and instructional goals
- Lecturer: Shogo Ishii (PhD) — IMF and JICA Consultant.
- Lecturer background (as described by the program): Previously, Dr. Ishii was the Director of the IMF Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific. He has also held senior positions at the IMF including mission chief for Malaysia, Singapore, and Vietnam and Senior Resident Representative in Thailand.
- Content goals:
  - Provide an overview of how the IMF analyzes macroeconomic issues, including through the use of its financial programming tool.
  - Discuss real country case studies of IMF surveillance and program activities.
  - Give participants the opportunity to undertake their own analysis of a country case in a group presentation using tools introduced in the classroom.
  - Topics explicitly mentioned: Financial Programming; Debt Sustainability Analysis in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic; Macroeconomic accounts; Macroeconomic policies; Adjustment programs; IMF-supported programs case study; JICA presentation.

### Target audience and participant experience
- Target: Mainly undergraduate students interested in working for international organizations and developing expertise in macroeconomics, international finance, development economics, and related fields; master’s students may also apply.

  - Five-day online workshop format fostering interaction through group work.
  - Group presentations: participants apply IMF analysis tools and simulate IMF economic surveillance and policy recommendation processes.
