### Overview and objectives
- Hosted by the IMF in cooperation with JICA.
- Initiative for Macroeconomists of the Future.
- The lectures provide an overview of how the IMF analyzes macroeconomic issues, including through the use of its financial programming tool.
- Real country case studies of IMF surveillance and program activities will be discussed.
- Students will undertake their own analysis of a country case in a group presentation using tools introduced in the classroom.
- A Certificate of Participation will be granted to participants who complete this workshop.

### Main lecturer
- Main Lecturer: Jerry Schiff (PhD).
- Dr. Schiff is a former Deputy Director of the Asia and Pacific Department and Senior Advisor in the Office of the Managing Director at the IMF.
- He has taught courses on macroeconomics and economic policy at American University, George Washington University and the University of Tokyo Graduate School of Public Policy.

### Target participants and admissions
- Target: Students on Master’s/ PhD degree programs interested in working for international organizations while developing expertise in macroeconomics, international finance, development economics, and related fields.
- Young scholars and undergraduate students can also apply.
- NO. TO BE ADMITTED: 20 (Participants will be selected through submitted applications).
- MAIN TARGET: Students pursuing Master’s/ PhD.

    - Overview of how the IMF analyzes macroeconomic issues and presentation of the IMF’s financial programming tool.

    - Case of Turkey to explain IMF surveillance and illustrate how financial programming is used to analyze a country’s economy; using economic data to identify risks and vulnerabilities and to develop policy recommendations; serves as basis for student presentations.

    - Discusses role of, and process behind, an IMF-supported adjustment program using Sri Lanka as a case study to provide concrete examples and explore key trade-offs in program design.
