### Overview
- The IMF Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific will hold the 23rd Macroeconomist Training Program, a three day residential workshop providing an opportunity to explore how the IMF uses its financial programming framework to analyze member country economic prospects and risks and to make policy recommendations.
- Language: Japanese (lecture materials in English will also be used).
- Fee: Free.

### Logistics and Admissions
- Place: JICA Tokyo (Tokyo International Center).
- Date: Wednesday, March 26 – Friday, March 28, 2025.

### Target audience and certification
- Main target: Undergraduate students (graduate students pursuing a master’s degree may also apply).
- Particularly encouraged: Those interested in working for international organizations and developing expertise in macroeconomics, international finance, development economics, and related fields.
- Certificate: A Certificate of Participation will be granted to participants who complete this workshop.

### Main lecturer
- Main Lecturer: Shogo Ishii (PhD), IMF Consultant.
- Biography highlights:
  - Previously Director of the IMF Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (until 2013).
  - Served as IMF mission chief for Malaysia, Singapore, and Vietnam; Senior Resident Representative in Thailand; and held other senior IMF positions.

- Overview of how the IMF analyzes macroeconomic issues using financial programming.
- Explanation of key macroeconomic sectors, indicators, and their linkages.
- Components:
  - Role of the IMF and how IMF economists work at Headquarters and in the field.
  - Macroeconomic Framework: financial programming overview.
  - Macroeconomic Policy (I): Fiscal policy and fiscal sustainability—fiscal account interpretation, fiscal indicators, fiscal policy instruments, assessing public debt sustainability.
  - Macroeconomic Policies (II): Monetary, exchange rate, and financial sector policies—monetary policy frameworks with focus on inflation targeting and monetary policy instruments; exchange rate policy; policies to secure financial sector stability.
  - Formulation of Adjustment Program: assessing macroeconomic imbalances/vulnerabilities, setting macroeconomic goals, and adjustment policies.
  - IMF-Supported Programs: Case study of Sri Lanka to illustrate program design trade-offs.
  - Group assignment and presentations using tools introduced in lectures.
  - Office hours for group presentation preparation.
- Participants will undertake group presentations applying IMF analysis tools to a country case.
