### Overview
- The IMF Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific will hold the 27th Macroeconomist Training Program, conducted as a three-day residential workshop that provides an opportunity to explore the ways in which the IMF uses its financial programming framework to analyze member countries’ economic prospects and risks and to make policy recommendations.

### Main lecturer
- Main Lecturer: Kenneth Kang (PhD)
  - Formerly a Deputy Director in the Strategy, Policy and Review Department of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), covering global surveillance, trade policy, exchange rates, capital flows, macrofinancial policies, and digitalization.
  - Previously worked in the Asia and Pacific and the European Departments, overseeing China, the Euro Area, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands and Thailand, and was the IMF Resident Representative in Korea during 2003-06.
  - Holds a Ph.D. in economics from Harvard University.

### Content and learning objectives
- Lectures will provide an overview of how the IMF analyzes macroeconomic issues, including through the use of its financial programming tool.
- Real country case studies of IMF surveillance and program activities will be discussed.
- Students will undertake group analysis of a country case and present findings using tools introduced in the classroom.
- Topics introduced include:
  - The role of the IMF in the international financial system and how IMF economists work at Headquarters and in the field.
  - The IMF’s financial programming tool and its use to understand linkages between macroeconomic variables, make projections, and develop policy recommendations.
  - Use of financial programming for fiscal policy, monetary and financial sector policies, and evaluation of macro-financial linkages and risks.
  - Practical case studies: IMF policy advice (case of Turkey) and IMF-supported programs (case of Sri Lanka).
- Interactive elements:

### Target participants
- Students on Master’s/PhD degree programs interested in working for international organizations while developing expertise in macroeconomics, international finance, development economics, and related fields.
- Young scholars and undergraduate students can also apply.
