Specialized Assistants / Administrative Assistants

IMF assistants are engaged in multi-faceted and consistently evolving roles. The work is exciting and involves a lot of problem solving. The IMF works directly with its member nations on key global economic challenges to ensure economic stability and growth and our assistants often play a critical role in supporting this mission.

As an assistant at the IMF, you will be part of a highly skilled team with a ringside seat to important decisions that impact the global economy. We recruit assistants for positions across the IMF with experience in areas including administration, research, budget, finance, accounting, human resources, communication, and information technology.

What Would I Do

Roles can vary but may include the following:

  • Administrative Assistants are an integral part of IMF teams, often providing a wide range of support activities. Depending on the assignment, this might include scheduling meetings between a Mission Chief and a Finance Minister, finalizing confidential and sensitive documents, planning mission travel, and preparing for events. All tasks could be highly important and visible to our member countries, impacting the lives and future well-being of their citizens.
  • Training Coordinators support the implementation of capacity development programs for leaders and key officials so that they may gain new skills in monitoring surveillance and multilateral trading programs; skills they can take back to grow their economies.
  • HR Assistants may be involved in preparing the schedule for panel interviews, drafting appointment letters for selected candidates, supporting performance development and assessment programs, and/or administering employee benefits to ensure they are applied fairly and consistently. These tasks can directly impact the IMF workforce’s motivation and ensure we maintain the right talent and skills needed to support our membership.
  • Budget, Accounting, and Finance Assistants may be required to process invoices, reconcile country accounts, or verify payments to staff. These responsibilities could mean working closely with country representatives, external vendors, mission members, and staff throughout the organization to ensure our work proceeds efficiently with the appropriate controls and within budget.
  • Whatever the assignment, our assistants’ ability to contribute ideas and work behind the scenes to coordinate various activities is an integral part of the team and their success.
