Target Audience

Banking supervisors from supervisory authorities from SARTTAC member Countries.

To have experience in banking supervision.

Course Description

The course delivered in-person by SARTTAC will cover a range of issues pertaining to the supervision of the banking sector including cross country regulatory and supervisory frameworks. Apart from the vital risk categories covering credit, liquidity and operational risk, the course will discuss various perspectives and lessons drawn from the recent turmoil in the US and Swiss banking sectors, most remarkably the importance of ensuring banks have sound internal governance and risk management. Failures in this area are the common theme underpinning recent events and they have also been the core theme of many past crises. Also, we will touch upon the climate-related financial risks, which, together with the digitalization of finance, are perhaps the most existential medium-term threats to the global banking system. Thus, the course will cover the priority area that both banks and supervisors should be focusing on, now and going forward.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to improve supervisory capacity in the region. The learning process will include some lectures but will mostly rely on hands-on experience and case studies to reinforce participant understanding.
