The Technical Assistance (TA) report focuses on four key work areas aimed at improving Government Finance Statistics (GFS) for fiscal analysis, supporting policy making decisions in Zambia, and improving African Department surveillance.

The Coordinating Committee, recommended in the previous TA mission, was not yet established.
Legislation reforms supporting GFS compilation were on track, especially regarding the Public Finance Act.
The Central Statistical Office (CSO) is working on the revision of the Statistics Act to follow the new strategy for National Development of Statistics.

Reviewed progress on legal and institutional arrangements supporting compilation of GFS as a follow up from recommendations of the previous GFS TA mission.
Identified continued reform momentum in legislation, with particular progress on the Public Finance Act.
Noted CSO engagement in statutory reform through revision of the Statistics Act aligned with the national statistics strategy.

For sustainability and consistency purposes, the mission recommended that CSO staff produce a GFS manual for compilation and dissemination of GFS data.
