  - the Ministry of Economy,

  - the Banco de España, where he was Director of the Governor’s Office and Head of the International Financial Organizations Division.
- Served at the IMF’s Executive Board on two separate occasions: 2002–2006, and 2018–2022.
- Served as Executive Director at the IMF: 2020–2022, representing Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, and Spain.

- Member of the Civil Service Corps of State Economists in Spain.
- Holds a PhD in economics from Complutense University of Madrid.
- Holds a BA in economics from Complutense University of Madrid.
- Holds an M.A. in public administration from George Mason University on a Fulbright scholarship.
