### Overview
- The IMF works with countries to strengthen their economic institutions by providing technical assistance and training on critical economic issues.
- Objective: help countries strengthen their economy and create more jobs.
- Core focus areas: central banks, finance ministries, revenue administrations, statistical agencies, and financial sector supervisory agencies.
- Capacity development is one of three core IMF tasks, alongside surveillance and lending.
- Support is provided on the request of member countries and is tailored to country needs, focused on core areas of IMF competence critical to economic stability and growth.

### How the IMF Provides Capacity Development
- Delivery modalities:
  - Technical assistance and training provided on request of member countries.
  - Seventeen Regional Capacity Development Centers located around the world provide expertise and regional context, including peer-to-peer learning, and rapid local support.
  - Country and thematic funds pool resources from the IMF and partners to offer state-of-the-art training and technical assistance in IMF core areas of competence.
  - Courses for government officials, online training, and microlearning complement support for authorities and citizens of member countries.

### Partners and Financing
- The IMF contributes a significant amount of its own resources to fund capacity development work.
- Partner support:
  - Over 40 bilateral and multilateral partners play a critical role in meeting high demand from member countries.
  - Partners finance more than 60% of the IMF’s capacity development work around the world.
