### Target audience
- Mid-senior-level public officials working in the Ministries of Finance or Economy in charge of the government budget and/or of public investments.
- Other staff from line ministries and public corporations responsible for key public infrastructure who oversee the planning, preparation and implementation of capital projects.

### Course description (structure and thematic focus)
- Delivery format: in-person lectures, group discussions and group exercises.
- Framework: considers the three phases of the project cycle identified in the IMF's Public Investment Management Assessment (PIMA) framework.
- Planning phase: focuses on the importance of strategic planning, project appraisal and risk management.
- Resource allocation phase: explores the medium-term budget implications of project selection.
- Implementation phase: reviews key issues during investment delivery and the importance of project and portfolio management.

### Course objectives (upon completion participants will be able to)
- Understand key issues in the strategic planning of public investment
- Understand approaches to project appraisal across infrastructure sectors and anticipate the impact of risk and uncertainty.
- Identify the key information on public investments needed to ensure the medium-term sustainability of the government's budget and estimate the medium-term fiscal space available for new projects, and
- Plan for project implementation and monitor the financial and physical execution of investment projects.
