- The IMF warns that several variants of fraudulent scam letters purporting to be sanctioned by the International Monetary Fund or authored by high ranking IMF officials are in circulation.
- Characteristics of the scams:
  - Letters may appear to use IMF letterhead and logo.
  - Scams instruct recipients to contact the IMF for issuance of a “Certificate of International Capital Transfer” or other approvals to receive large sums.
  - Contact e-mail information provided in the scams is bogus; victims are requested to send personal banking details which are then misused.
- The IMF directs readers to its fraud guidance titled Fraudulent Scam Emails Using the Name of the IMF for more information.
