### Seminar focus: India – Economic Outlook and Policy Priorities
- The IMF Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific hosted a country-based regional seminar on India’s economic outlook and long-term policy priorities.
- Topic overview:
  - India was among the fastest-growing economies in the world in the decade before the pandemic, lifting millions out of poverty.
  - COVID-19 severely impacted India: the first and second waves in 2020-21 caused a severe health crisis and led to deep social and economic harm.
  - Following a strong and broad policy response and the control of the pandemic, the economic recovery is underway.
  - The outlook remains clouded due to the uncertainty associated with the pandemic.
- Participation:
  - Nearly 90 people from across Asia participated in the virtual seminar.

- Speaker: Luis E. Breuer, IMF Senior Resident Representative for India, Nepal, and Bhutan (based in New Delhi).

  - Previously division chief of the ASEAN 4 division at the IMF Asia and Pacific Department.
  - Former IMF mission chief to Indonesia and Philippines.
  - Worked on countries including Colombia, Korea, and Thailand.
  - Led program negotiating missions to Honduras, Nicaragua, Peru, and Bolivia.
  - Served as central banking advisor in Bolivia.
  - Prior policy and academic positions included Member of the Board of Directors at the Central Bank of Paraguay and visiting assistant professor of economics at the University of Illinois.
