### Orientation Program: Purpose and Structure
- The Orientation Program (OP) is an intensive academic and cultural preparation hosted at the International University of Japan in Niigata, organized by the Japan-IMF Scholarship Program for Asia (JISPA).
- The OP is designed to facilitate a smooth transition into graduate studies and life in Japan by offering foundational courses in:
  - academic English
  - mathematics
  - introductory econometrics and economics
  - Japanese language
- Additional OP components include:
  - lectures on cross-cultural understanding and Japan’s modernization
  - a field trip to deepen contextual learning
  - lectures by IMF staff on the Fund’s role and operations
  - extracurricular activities organized by the host institution to foster camaraderie among incoming scholars

### Participation and Logistics
- Participation in the Orientation Program is mandatory for all newly accepted JISPA scholars.
- The OP is conducted in a residential learning environment that combines intensive academic preparation with opportunities for community building and peer engagement among the incoming scholar cohort.
- Scholars are requested not to bring family members during the OP.
- Scholars must obtain prior approval from their respective universities to bring family after the OP.

### Timing and Location
- The Orientation Program takes place from early-July to mid-September, just before the academic year begins.
- The OP is held at the International University of Japan in Niigata.
- Scholars should refer to the OP schedule in the “Important Dates” section on the Application page for specific timing details.

### Commemoration and Outreach
- The Orientation Program overview features interviews conducted in commemoration of the 30th Anniversary of the Japan-IMF Scholarship Program for Asia (JISPA).
