### Public advisory on fraudulent scams
- Several variants of financial scam letters purporting to be sanctioned by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) or authored by high ranking IMF officials are currently in circulation.
- Scam letters may appear on official letterhead containing the IMF logo and instruct potential victims to contact the IMF for issuance of a “Certificate of International Capital Transfer” or other forms of approval to enable them to receive large sums of monies as beneficiaries.
- Contact e-mail information in these scam letters is always BOGUS; unsuspecting individuals are requested to send personal banking details which scammers utilize for fraudulent activities.
- For further details, see Fraudulent Scam Emails Using the Name of the IMF.

### Regional Economic Outlook — April 16, 2026
- Report title: Hard-Won Gains Under Pressure
- After a strong 2025 with growth at 4.5%, Sub-Saharan Africa entered 2026 reaping the benefits of hard-won stabilization gains.
- The war in the Middle East has clouded the outlook.
- Regional growth is expected to decline by 0.2 percentage points to 4.3 percent in 2026.

### Research series note
- The Departmental African Paper Series covers research on sub-Saharan Africa conducted by International Monetary Fund (IMF) staff, particularly on issues of broad regional or cross-country interest.
- The views expressed in these papers are those of the author(s) and do not necessarily represent the views of the IMF, its Executive Board, or IMF Management.
