### Major challenges faced during the year
- Sudden, steep decline of oil prices:
  - For most members, lower prices supported growth amid concerns about a new mediocre in the world economy.
  - Oil producers faced difficult adjustments.
  - These developments increased the demand for the IMF’s analytical work and policy advice.
- Ebola pandemic in Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone:
  - The IMF moved quickly to support the three governments to respond to the crisis and restart their economies.
  - The IMF provided more than $400 million of aid and debt relief, including by redesigning the disaster-response facility.
- Assistance to member countries with difficult economic and financial circumstances through IMF-supported programs:
  - The IMF reaffirmed its commitment to help these countries and all members through the period of turmoil.

### Institutional responses and innovations
- Pilot programs to embed research on inclusive growth and gender into country work.
- Launch of online training courses available to officials and the wider public.
- Launch of a free data initiative.
- Cooperation with member countries on Islamic finance.

### Engagement on governance and reform
- Continued engagement to implement the 2010 IMF quota and governance reforms as soon as possible.
- Members reaffirmed the importance and urgency of these reforms for the IMF’s credibility, legitimacy, and effectiveness.

### Reflection, anniversaries, and forward-looking priorities
- The year provided opportunities to:
  - Look back to achievements of the past 25 years in eastern and central Europe.
  - Mark the 70th anniversary of the IMF.
- Planning for the future:
  - Building on achievements of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals.
  - Supporting climate policy by getting energy prices right.
  - Preparing for the international community’s 2015 effort to put in place the goals and policies aimed at reducing poverty and strengthening inclusive growth by 2030.
- Presentation:
  - The 2015 Annual Report highlights the IMF’s work with a new approach that blends essays and graphics and emphasizes the work of the IMF’s Executive Board.
