### Measures and key statistics
- Wealth:
  - The poorest half of the global population owns just €2,900 (in purchasing power parity) per adult.
  - The top 10 percent owns roughly 190 times as much.
- Income:
  - The richest 10 percent today snap up 52 percent of all income.
  - The poorest half get just 8.5 percent.
- Ecological inequality:
  - Reported through carbon dioxide emissions by income category.
  - Disparities are present not only between nations but within countries between the most well-off and the rest.
- Gender inequality:
  - Measured through a breakdown of labor incomes.
  - Over the past 30 years women’s share of income has only slightly improved.

### Analysis
- The two new measures (ecological and gender inequality) extend understanding beyond traditional wealth and income metrics.
- Large disparities in carbon dioxide emissions exist across income categories, highlighting unequal ecological footprints.
- Gender disparities in labor income have shown only modest gains over the past 30 years.

### Policy implications and recommendations
- Much can be done about inequality; it is framed as a political choice.
- Better policy design is presented as leading inevitably to fairer development pathways.
