Povilas Lastauskas

Povilas Lastauskas is a Senior Economist in the Research Department (Systemic Issues Division) of the International Monetary Fund, focusing on macroeconomic development, international financial flows, and trade. Before joining the IMF, he held various academic and research leadership roles, including directorship of the Center for Excellence in Finance and Economic Research (CEFER) at the Bank of Lithuania. He co-founded and led an English-taught Quantitative Economics program that combined economics with data science and finance. He contributed to the European Central Bank’s monetary policy strategy review on globalization, with his analysis reflected in the final report. As an expert for the OECD, he helped develop national economic policy recommendations. In 2019, he delivered a lecture at the Lámfalussy Lectures Conference on economic convergence in Europe and Asia. He served as President of the Baltic Economic Association (2021-2022) and was on the editorial board of its journal, the Baltic Journal of Economics (Editor from 2018 to 2024). He has led several international research projects and secured significant grants, including programs on economic resilience and reform spillovers in Europe. His analysis has appeared in outlets like VoxEU, the LSE Business Review, and IMF Research Perspectives. Povilas regularly explores global finance and development topics and has taught courses in econometrics, international trade, and global economic policy.
