IMF Announces Appointment of Donal Donovan as Director of IMF-Singapore Regional Training Institute

Michel Camdessus, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), announced the appointment of Donal J. Donovan as Director of the IMF-Singapore Regional Training Institute (STI) in Singapore.

Mr. Donovan, 46, an Irish national, is currently Senior Advisor in the IMF’s European II Department, which deals with the Baltic States, Russia, and other countries of the former Soviet Union. He holds a B.A. from Trinity College, Dublin, and a Ph.D. from the University of British Columbia. Mr. Donovan, who joined the IMF in 1977 as an economist, previously held senior positions in the IMF’s African and Statistics Department.

The IMF and the Government of Singapore inaugurated the STI in Singapore on May 4, 1998. The new Institute will allow the IMF to expand the training it offers in Asia, and, in the first year of operations, will offer 12 training courses aimed at officials from the Asia-Pacific region.
