Press Release: IMF Managing Director Names Diana Serrano as Human Resources Director

Mr. Dominique Strauss-Kahn, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), has named Ms. Diana Serrano to the position of Director of the Human Resources Department (HRD) to succeed Mr. Liam P. Ebrill, who in July had expressed his intention to retire. The three-year, fixed-term appointment will become effective on January 4, 2008.

Ms. Serrano, a dual national of Ecuador and the United States, has served as Deputy Director of the Human Resources Department since January 2007. Prior to joining the Fund, she was Director of Legal Services at the World Food Programme (WFP), having previously held the position of Director of the Division of Human Resources at the WFP and before that at the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO). Ms. Serrano received a law degree from Georgetown University.

Mr. Ebrill, an Irish national, has served as Director of the Human Resources Department since June 6, 2006. He has held a range of senior positions in various area and functional departments within the IMF since joining the IMF in 1983. Mr. Ebrill received a doctorate in economics from Harvard University.

Mr. Ebrill will remain at the Fund and serve as Special Advisor to the Managing Director on restructuring issues through the Spring Meetings in 2008.
