Mr. Dominique Strauss-Kahn, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), made the following statement today:
"I would like to congratulate President-elect Barack Obama on his victory in yesterday's election in the United States. As stated by Mr. Obama and by his opponent John McCain in his gracious remarks last night, this is a historic occasion for the United States, and represents the best of the ideals that we in the international community strive to embody. I look forward to working closely with President-elect Obama and the U.S. Administration in the period ahead in dealing expeditiously and forcefully with the serious challenges facing the U.S. and global economies at the present time."
