March 9, 2009
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) Resident Representative in Romania, Mr. Juan José Fernádez-Ansola, made the following statement today in Bucharest:
“An IMF mission, led by Mr. Jeffrey Franks, will visit Bucharest during March 11-25, following up on the ongoing economic dialogue with the Romanian authorities. Preliminary discussions in Washington last week were fruitful, and we remain in close dialogue with the Romanian authorities and the European Union (EU) to evaluate appropriate responses, including possible technical and financial support.
“The mission that starts work on Wednesday, March 11, 2009 will continue assessing the macroeconomic situation, and hold discussions on a potential IMF program for Romania. The program would be part of a pro-active, insurance-based multilateral financing package, to be supported by the EU and the World Bank, among other international financial institutions.”
