Mr. Thomas Bernes, Director of the Independent Evaluation Office (IEO) of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), has notified the IMF’s Executive Board of his intention to leave the office at the end of July 2009.

“I would like to express my and my colleagues’ heartfelt appreciation to Mr. Tom Bernes for his valuable contribution to the Fund as Director of the IEO. It is with some sadness that we learned of his decision to step down at the end of July 2009 but recognize his desire to pursue other opportunities.

“As only its second Director, Mr. Bernes has solidified the IEO as a leading voice in helping the Fund improve its operations and practices, while reinforcing the learning culture within the institution. We extend to him our most grateful thanks for his service and counsel, and wish him all the best in his future endeavors.”
