Press Release: IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde Names Susan Swart to Chief Information Officer Post

Ms. Christine Lagarde, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), announced today her intention to name Ms. Susan Swart the Chief Information Officer (CIO) and Associate Director of the Fund’s Technology and General Services Department.

“I have informed the Executive Board of my intention to appoint Susan Swart the Chief Information Officer and Associate Director of the Fund’s Technology and General Services Department,” Ms. Lagarde stated. “In a strong field of global candidates, Susan demonstrated expertise with the technology challenges of the kind faced by the Fund and has a distinguished record in delivering high quality IT services in a public sector environment.

“I would like to thank Jonathan Palmer for his service as the Fund’s CIO since the post was created in 2006 and wish him well on his return to public service in Australia.”

A U.S. national, Ms. Swart has served in the U.S. State Department since 1989 in positions of increasing responsibility, and has been its Chief Information Officer since 2008. She is a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth and the National Defense universities. Her appointment will take effect in August.

The Fund CIO is responsible for the provision of information technology services and infrastructure, as well as the application of technology to the mission of the Fund.
