Summary
- Press Release No. 19/185
- Date: May 29, 2019
- Equatorial Guinea has implemented the recommendations of the IMF’s Enhanced General Data Dissemination System (e‑GDDS) by publishing critical macroeconomic data through a National Summary Data Page (NSDP).
- The e‑GDDS was established by the IMF’s Executive Board in May 2015 to support improved data transparency, encourage statistical development, and help create synergies between data dissemination and surveillance.
NSDP features and dissemination
- The NSDP is posted on the National Statistics Office’s website and utilizes the Statistical Data and Metadata Exchange (SDMX).
- The NSDP is accessible on the IMF’s Dissemination Standards Bulletin Board.
- Data published through the NSDP will be disseminated in both human and machine-readable formats.
- The NSDP page contains links to statistics published by official data producers:
- Central Bank for Central African States (BEAC)
- National Statistics Office (INEGE)
- Ministry of Finance, Economy and Planning
Key data categories published
- National accounts
- Government operations and debt
- Monetary and financial sector
- Balance of payments
Expected benefits and users
- Publication of essential macroeconomic data through the NSDP will provide:
- National policy makers with a one-stop publication vehicle for essential macroeconomic data.
- Domestic and international stakeholders, including investors and rating agencies, with easy access to critical information identified by the IMF’s Executive Board for monitoring economic conditions and policies.
- Making information accessible in both human and machine-readable formats will:
- Allow all users to have simultaneous access to timely data.
- Bring greater data transparency.
- Encourage further statistical development and create synergies between data dissemination and surveillance.
Implementation remarks and endorsement
- Louis Marc Ducharme, Chief Statistician and Data Officer, and Director of the IMF’s Statistics Department, welcomed the milestone, stating:
- “I congratulate the authorities of Equatorial Guinea for the launch of the NSDP, an important step forward in data dissemination. I am confident that Equatorial Guinea will benefit from using the e‑GDDS as a framework for further development of its statistical system.”
