Resignation announcement

- Ms. Christine Lagarde, Managing Director of the IMF, announced she has submitted her resignation from the Fund.
- Resignation effective date: September 12, 2019
Reason and intent
- Ms. Lagarde stated that, with greater clarity on the process for her nomination as ECB President and the time it will take, she made the decision to resign "in the best interest of the Fund, as it will expedite the selection process for my successor."
- Her prior relinquishment of responsibilities announced previously will remain in effect until the effective resignation date.
Interim leadership and succession process
- The Executive Board will take the necessary steps to move forward with the process for selecting a new Managing Director.
- David Lipton remains Acting Managing Director.
- The Fund will communicate on the Executive Board’s process of selecting a new Managing Director in due course.
