Long and distinguished career in the Japanese government with a focus on financial regulation.
Served as Deputy Commissioner for International Affairs at the Financial Services Agency.
Served as Secretary General of the Certified Public Accountants and Auditing Oversight Board.
Previously served as Senior Director responsible for overall coordination of the Policy and Markets Bureau and Securities and Exchange Surveillance Commission and headed the Securities Business Division.
Extensive experience in international issues regarding economic policy and financial regulation and represented Japan in different capacities in international fora, developing a wide range of human networks worldwide, including Asia and the Pacific.
In recent years, chaired and headed international groups, including:
- International Forum of Independent Audit Regulators (as Chair).
- IFRS Foundation Monitoring Board (as Chair).
- Asia Pacific Regional Committee of the International Organization of Securities Commissions (as Chair).

Earlier in his career (1999-2002), worked in the IMF as an economist in the Asia and the Pacific Department (APD).
Participated in missions to Japan as well as other countries in the Asia Pacific, including Pacific Island Countries.

Born in Tokyo, Japan.
Holds a LL.B. from the University of Tokyo (1991).
Holds a MBA (beta, gamma, sigma) from Columbia Business School in the United States (1995).
Married with one daughter.
