Takashi Nagaoka
Takashi Nagaoka was appointed as Director of the International Monetary Fund’s Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (OAP) on August 20, 2025.
Mr. Nagaoka has a long and distinguished career in the Japanese government with the focus on financial regulation and served in key positions, including Deputy Commissioner for International Affairs at the Financial Services Agency and Secretary General of the Certified Public Accountants and Auditing Oversight Board. Prior to those, he served as Senior Director responsible for overall coordination of the Policy and Markets Bureau and Securities and Exchange Surveillance Commission as well as headed the Securities Business Division. He has an extensive experience in international issues regarding economic policy and financial regulation and represented Japan in different capacities in international fora, through which he developed a wide range of human networks worldwide, including Asia and the Pacific. In recent years, he headed international groups such as the International Forum of Independent Audit Regulators and IFRS Foundation Monitoring Board as well as the Asia Pacific Regional Committee of the International Organization of Securities Commissions, as their Chair, among others.
Earlier in his career (1999-2002), Mr. Nagaoka worked in the IMF as an economist in the Asia and the Pacific Department (APD) and participated in missions to Japan as well as other countries in the Asia Pacific, including Pacific Island Countries.
Born in Tokyo, Japan, Mr. Nagaoka holds a LL.B. from the University of Tokyo (1991) and a MBA (beta, gamma, sigma) from Columbia Business School in the United States (1995). He is married with one daughter.
