Erlend Nier

Erlend W. Nier is Advisor in the IMF’s Monetary and Capital Markets (MCM) Department. In this capacity, Erlend focuses on monetary and macroprudential policy to achieve stability goals in advanced and emerging economies. He has been leading the development of the IMF’s policy framework for advice on macroprudential policy in the wake of the global financial crisis. He has more recently contributed to the new “Integrated Policy Framework”, including by leading new guidance on the advice on foreign exchange intervention as part of this framework. Erlend has published analytical work on financial stability and effectiveness of macroprudential policies in several academic journals. Prior to joining the IMF, he was Research Manager with the Bank of England’s Financial Stability Directorate. Erlend Nier holds a PhD from the London School of Economics.
